An abstract published in the AAEP Proceedings found that 20% of horses in emergency evacuation shelters over 3 major wildfires needed veterinary care. Despite this information and anecdotal evidence from responding veterinarians there is currently very limited published data on how exposure to high air quality index and sheltering physically affects equine patients.
